Netflix on Android marketbase
In John Gruber’s commentary on the announcement that the new Netflix Android app is only available for a limited number of handsets, he asked if anyone had a reasonable estimate of how much of the market that actually represents.
My Audiobooks app has been in the Android Marketplace for a little over a year. It is free, well reviewed and has around 660k downloads. Given those attributes its own install statistics should provide a good estimate of what the Netflix app will find.
The data is as follows:
6.1% HTC EVO 4G
5.3% HTC Incredible
1.1% Nexus One
0.5% G2
0.1% Nexus S
For a total market of 13.1%. So 86.9% of users won’t be able to make use of the app.
